Is Autism a Mental Disorder According to the Harmful Dysfunction View?

The supporters of the neurodiversity movement contend that autism is not a mental disorder, but rather natural human variation. In recent paper Jerome Wakefi eld, David Wasserman and Jordan Conrad (2020) argued against this view relying on eld’s harmful dysfunction theory disorder (the HD theory). Although I argue problematic, arguments offered by eld et al. those are plausible, except in one respect: their claim high functioning general well supported. instead status high-functioning autistic persons should be judged case-by-case basis, depending harmfulness condition. regard, maintain list basic psychological capacities provided George Graham (2010) provides an adequate conceptualization harm. Moreover, show how framework may offer appropriate tool for assessment harm associated with autism.
